What is agricultural land?
Agricultural land can be defined as a tract of land where plants and crops are grown. This farming can be for both subsistence and commercial purposes. Agricultural techniques vary from country to country and are generally influenced by the country’s climate, water availability, and food preferences.
The Government of India has also established the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and launched subsidy schemes like PM Kisan or Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Yojana).
Apart from traditional agricultural practices, people also prefer to invest in farmhouses. A farmhouse is a residential site nestled among growing farmland. Although an Indian citizen can buy agricultural land in any part of India , there are some restrictions on land ownership in tribal majority areas and protected areas in some states.
Benefits of owning agricultural land
Although buying agricultural land is an investment-intensive proposition, the return on investment potential outweighs the initial investment. However, the return on investment depends entirely on the crops grown, farming techniques, water availability and climatic conditions. Some of the main advantages of owning agricultural land are-
Even if the cultivation is not done by you, the entire farmland can be leased to a professional farmer, and you can get a fixed amount in return annually. If you decide to farm yourself, you can earn good money by selling the products locally or internationally. If the government has planned infrastructure projects in the selected area, agricultural land along the stretch can guarantee long-term returns.
Apart from agricultural activities, agricultural land can also be used for allied activities like animal husbandry, chicken farming, egg farming and beekeeping. This can be a profitable business if done diligently. With an aim to support the landholding farmers of the country, the central government has launched a financial benefit scheme named Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana pr PM Kisan for the landholding farmers.
